Hey allemaal,

Succes! #speakyourmind

Met vriendelijke groet,
Patricia van Eeden en Maarten Schoorl

Hi fellas,
Whether you have studied at RSM for a couple of months or a couple of years, you must have noticed there are several things that went well and others that did not. As Program Advisory of SR we deal with those which are more general issues rather than related to one specific course. To find out what those are we need you to join our focus group. For about 30 minutes we will openly talk about general studies (workshops, online platforms, lectures) , exams (computerized exams, perusals) and tutoring (TAs, communication with professors).

There will be FREE PIZZA and drinks if you show up!

SR Member of the Month

Welcome to the SR Member of the Month page! Our newest initiative awards the outstanding enthusiasm and exceptional efforts of SR members. Through the words of the most devoted SRians, we will present to you our vibrant community.

Enjoy and share!

Member of the Month: APRIL 2017

Welcome to the 2nd edition of SR Member of the Month! This month’s recognition goes to Isabel Boekestein of the SR Trip Committee. The trip took place in April and it was a great success, bringing the SR family together during a wonderful journey to Lille, France.

Isabel comes from the Netherlands and is in her 3rd year of IBA studies. She joined SR in her 2nd year and both times perfectly organized the SR Trip. Here is what she shared in her special interview:

Isabel, why did you choose RSM?

“I liked the city of Rotterdam and wanted to move here on my own. Moreover, Business was my main interest and IBA seemed like the best study choice, especially because of the international touch of the programme.”

What made you choose SR and stay within the association for two years?

“I somehow fortunately ended up at the recruitment drinks two years ago. After talking to people from the board, I became inspired to join the association and make the most out of it. The main reason I immediately considered joining were the people and my assumption that I would fit really well in SR.”

What is a professional benefit from being an SR member?

“I would say that as part of the organization of the SR Trip, I learned how to communicate in a professional way, while also getting familiar with all the details needed to make such a big trip happen.”

Personal benefits as part of SR?

“I made a lot of new friends. In general, I definitely feel as if I got to know myself better.”

Favorite SR event that you have been part of?

“I have two! First, I have to say the SR Trip. It is great to see our committee’s hard work paid off. People had fun and it was a pleasure to meet many new SR people. Last year, I really liked the Professor Awards because this event is unique in recognizing the hard work of professors.”

What are your hobbies outside of SR?

“I like going to the gym and hanging out with friends. Also, I enjoy watching TV series. Riverdale is my favorite right now.”

What is your favorite place in Holland?

“Breda: a really nice town, small and cute. It possesses a special atmosphere, old buildings. Definitely go there when it is sunny to enjoy a relaxing walk.”

If you had to describe SR in one sentence, what would it be?

“A family of students.”

Member of the Month: MARCH 2017

Lotte Bontekoe, responsible for RSM Today, is the first SR Member of the Month. Lotte comes from Boskoop in the Netherlands. She is a second-year BA student and single-handedly manages the weekly RSM Today slides. She prepares the slides which students from the first, second and third year see at their weekly lectures. By doing this, Lotte helps SR, as well as other student associations, communicate the most important events happening on campus.

Here is what she shared in a casual interview with our Marketing committee.

Hello, Lotte! Congratulations on becoming Member of the Month! What do you think of this brand new initiative?

“I really like the initiative because it’s personal and totally different from posts such as advertisement, which eventually become boring. Students need to see more positive experiences from personal point of view.”

Why did you choose RSM and the BA programme?

“When I visited Erasmus University, I had a really good feeling about the city of Rotterdam. I immediately knew it was the right place, so it was just a matter of choosing the right study. The Business Administration bachelor turned out to be the best-suited course for a student with various interests like me.”

What was your reason to join SR and not one of the many other associations?

“My desire was to add extra value to the quality of courses and the programme. And this is exactly what Student Representation had to offer. Compared to some other association, SR is a serious association and really contributes to the RSM community.”

What is a professional benefit from being an SR member?

“With RSM today, I managed to improve my English skills in writing. I also became a better designer since I spend a lot of time on the layout of the RSM Today slides. I really want to make sure they are interesting to people, so you can say my creativity has been increased as well.”

Personal benefits as part of SR?

“SR taught me how to reach out to people from different backgrounds. I am also interacting with international students much more. While being part of SR I have definitely improved my spoken English as well, because even with Dutch people, I communicate in English.”

What about your favorite SR event (so far)?

“I think that the recent Drinks with the Professor event is my favorite SR event. It is a great chance to meet our professors outside the lecture hall in an informal environment. The BA and IBA studies are not so personal because of the large number of students enrolled and you do not have that much contact with the lecturers. Drinks with the Professor changes that, it is a FUN event, but also fits SR’s constructive mission.”

On a more casual note, do you have any hobbies?

“I am part of a unique Scouting association – the largest in the Netherlands. I lead a group with five friends, responsible for 30 younger girls for a period of 6 years. Eventually they take our spots and have their own group of younger scouts. We have weekly meetings with the girls, and we are, as leaders, active in committees, with Scouts leaders from other age-groups. Right now we are preparing for the upcoming Carnaval, so the little girls are making Carnaval clothes and have to dress up. We do all kinds of fun activities together and learn a lot from each other!”

Do you enjoy listening to music?

“Yes! I listen to music a lot. My favorite genre is alternative/indie, basically what you don’t hear on the radio. Oscar and the Wolf (Belgium), Alt-J and the more popular James Blake and the XX”.

Nice! What are you plans for Spring break?

“I am actually going to Berlin with five of my friends. I was there shortly last summer while on Interrail trip, but I was in love with it at first sight, so I am really looking forward to going there again.”

What would tell people who are hesitating about joining SR?

“If you would like to contribute to the quality of your own study/time in university, then SR is the place for you. A lot of people have to understand that no one is “too small” to have an impact! And with SR you have the freedom to implement a good idea if you have one.”
