History
In 1985, a group of Dutch students raised a student-organization to improve the quality of the Dutch Bachelor study Business Administration (Bedrijfskunde). This organization, called “De Studentenvertegenwoording (SV)” to created a concentrated and “student-led” union within the university body.
The core responsibility in the beginning years was simple. Students from the Business Administration study could approach the SV with all their study-related problems. Thereafter, the SV tried to solve these problems by talking with the associated departments within the Rotterdam School of Management.
After a few years, which were quite successful for the SV, a structure was created. For each course within the Bachelor’s, two representatives were appointed. These representatives were the contact people for students when they would have any problems with their course during their academic year. The course, literature, professors, exams and Blackboard (at a later stage) were discussed with the professors by these representatives.
During these developments within the SV, the International Business Administration students created their own SV, called the Student Representation (SR). This student organization had the same core responsibility as the Dutch equivalent, namely: giving a voice to their students and trying to improve the quality of their study within the Rotterdam School of Management.
In 2008, The SV and SR had a meeting and concluded within that they could create an even stronger body for their students if they would merge. After several meetings with each other and with the university body, the Student Representation was created “again”. This organization from now on would be “the” student organization, acting as an intermediary between students on one side and the RSM staff on the other side.
SR has become a well-respected organization within the Rotterdam School of Management. Students can hand in their feedback for their courses via Social Media, the website and of course via their student representatives. In 2011, the SR added a new section of representation: Programme Advisory. Students can hand in their feedback regarding more “general” academic procedures, including examination, general studies, and the 7th trimester. The purpose of Programme Advisory is to imporve the programme as a whole. The SR changed a lot of course-related topics and improved the quality of the university. In 2015, SR further expanded to represent the minors of the Rotterdam School of Management. SR has also continuously worked on improving its own processes, such as its feedback gathering mechanisms.
In order to constantly improve the quality of the education of RSM, we need the feedback of as many students as possible, we need you to SPEAK YOUR MIND!
